Healthy Snacking Made Simple

It’s 3.30pm, lunch has become a distant memory, and dinner time isn’t feeling any closer. You’re beginning to feel that emptiness in your stomach coupled with the usual afternoon tiredness. After your second yawn you consider visiting the vending machine to stretch your legs and treat yourself to a snack…

Sound familiar? It happens to the best of us! But what we have to remember is that – when it comes to a healthy diet – our snack choices are just as important as our meal choices.

If it sounds easier said than done, we’re here to help! Try some of these recipes and ideas to help you plan your snacks better.


Homemade Curry Potato Chips

 Thinly slice a potato and spread it onto a lined oven tray. Sprinkle oil, salt and your favourite Rajah curry powder and bake at 180 degrees for 10 minutes.


Granola Bars

 These bad boys are a treat and are easy enough to make at home.

In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Then, add 1/3 cup of honey, 1/3 cup of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Fold in 2 cups of rolled oats, a cup of chopped nuts, a cup of dried fruit, and 2 tablespoons of either wholewheat flour, flax seed, bran, or ground nuts and seeds.

Once mixed, press into a lined oven tray and bake for 30 minutes at 150 degrees.


Crunchy Chickpeas

 If you love chewing throughout the day, crunchy chickpeas will be just the thing to keep you occupied.

Using an oven proof pan or skillet, add a can of drained chickpeas, 2 tablespoons of oil, and 2 teaspoons of Rajah Curry Powder. Sprinkle salt and bake for 20 minutes at 210 degrees .


Peanut Butter Apple

 An apple a day keeps the doctor away… Throw peanut butter into the mix and this simple combination also makes sure the energy levels stay up!

Cut an apple into four pieces and spread half a tablespoon of peanut butter onto each quarter.


With these simple snacks in your lunch box, you’ll now be better equiped to satisfy your afternoon cravings with something wholesome and tasty. While they may be quick and easy to whip up, they’ll be sure to sustain you much longer than any chocolatey item found in your nearest vending machine could.
